A film of all elements: action thriller, intense movement, serious drama, with curiosity
about the day that is said to change lives forever, 2012 is released this month. It's a movie for those who have enjoyed watching the
Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow movies, also directed
by Roland Emmerich. It is full of
unpredictable, exciting, and wondrous events that are causing the audience
to form an interest in the film.
The 2012 Movie focuses on the idea in which the Mayan Calendar is looked
upon, since the Mayans foreshadow that on December 21, 2012 the world will
come to a drastic and unforgettable end. It also illustrates an intellectual
scientist who creates an egress or a threshold leading to a
parallel universe and preventing the forthcoming beliefs of the Mayans
coming into play. Provoking curiosity, 2012 shares the tale of the amount of
survivors that have lived through the excruciating and dreadful
encounter. The movie is currently was shot in Vancouver, Canada and it
will be releasing on November 13, 2009 nationwide.
2012 Movie stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetal Ejiofor, Thandiee
Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthney, Woody Harrelson, and Osric Chau.
We interview Osric Chau regarding the film and the on-going process and he
demonstrates a great example for the audience by his inspirational responses
and knowledge. Chau shows his humbleness and dedication by advising the
youngsters and encouraging them to do the right thing.
Describe your character in the film and how is he similar and/or
different from you?
Nima is impulsive, naive with an act first think after type of attitude
towards life. I am no different from Nima. Except that Nima can't speak
English very well, and I'm awesome at it.
What was your favorite part about shooting this film and what do you like
most about the movie?
A film is gigantic collaboration with hundreds of people working with their
own field to make something incredible, my favorite part about shooting this
film and every film is getting to know as many of these people as possible.
The sets and locations for this movie is just incredible. Every location
felt like I was walking on to the set of a different film altogether. And
although I could not see it at the time, hearing Roland describe the events
that will unfold at every location, I knew that I was going to love the
visual effects of the movie. Although... yea, I'm going to have to be
honest, my favorite part of the movie is that I'm in it.
What do you prefer to do during your spare time?
My life is a ball of chaos that continues to change my schedule and
activities with every impulsive action that I make. I grew up as a gamer, I
love Blizzard games, love staying active and participating in all sorts of
sports, but as of late, I enjoy sitting comfortably with a good book.
Currently reading the 4th book in series called "A Dream of Eagles", it's a
fictional documentation of how King Arthur and Camelot came to be after the
fall of the Roman Empire following Arthur's ancestors. I love medieval
stuff. I just wish there had been some Chinese guys over there in King
Arthur's time so I could play some sort of knight. Or even a squire. I
wouldn't say no to an Orc or Goblin either.
How is Martial Arts going for you?
I sustained a groin and knee injury last year and have been out of training
for awhile. I'm recovered now, and I train recreationally and help teach as
well. I love the sport, and do what I can to help it grow, I enjoy the
performance aspects of it and look forward to doing some choreography for a
show that my club, West Coast Chinese Martial Arts, will be putting on.
What advice will you give for the incoming actors/actresses or people
that are passionate about acting?
Don't give up. Everyone will tell you that the career is full of
rejection. Because it is. Never dwell on it and move on. Surround
yourself with people with similar goals and aspirations who believe in you.
And know your craft. Let yourself be vulnerable to your character and let
it control your actions. I'm going to have to stop here before I go on and
end up doing an entire acting class. Don't just be an actor, we're all film
makers and you should know how the camera will see you, the cuts that would
and could happen so you know how to compensate for it.
How do you think the audience will react when watching this movie?
Breaths held, hearts pounding loudly in their heads and mouths open in awe.
I'll guess that I'll be hearing "That was crazy!" from at least one of my
friends.
What would you like to say to your fans?
Without fans, there is no one to appreciate work, and no demand for work to
be done. You are the most important part of my career and I could never
thank you enough. If you're kind enough to say something nice about me or a
film I've worked on, I'll be kind enough to shake your hand and thank you
for your kindness. I don't know, what can I say? I don't have enough fans
so tell your friends!
What are the movies that you will be working on in the near future, and
what role do you think suits you best?
Oh if only I knew. As an actor I try to diversify myself in doing as many
different genres and characters as I can. I never want to limit myself with
what I can do. I have a certain image and quirks that are pretty dominant
in my personality, so I will always go for the opposite of what people label
me as if I have a choice. One of the best parts of being an actor is
exploring a completely different character than yourself. And the more out
of my element the better. Working without a challenge would not be as fun
or time consuming!
Wanting to watch some sci-fi and hi-fi commotion and agility make sure to
